Dusty Washburn

Dusty Washburn is in his third season as assistant baseball coach at Fort Hays State University in 2021.

Washburn joins the Tiger staff after serving two seasons as head coach at Thomas More Prep-Marian in Hays (2017-18). He led the Monarchs to back-to-back 3A state tournament appearances, including a 24-2 record and a state runner-up finish in 2018. Three of his players were selected to the All-State team by the coaches association. Washburn's coaching career began with the Hays Larks, where he assumed the role of assistant coach for five seasons (2011-2015), helping the Larks to multiple NBC World Series appearances.

Washburn was an All-American first baseman as a player, starting his career at Garden City (Kan.) Community College before transferring to Fort Hays State for three seasons. He earned all-conference honors four times, nabbing honorable mention All-KJCCC accolades as a freshman Broncbuster before twice earning honorable mention All-MIAA status and being named first team All-MIAA as a junior in 2008. He added All-American and All-Region honors in 2008, leading the team with 19 home runs, 79 hits and 59 RBI while adding 19 doubles, 56 runs, a .383 batting average and slugging .762. He ranks in the top 10 in eight career stat categories at FHSU, including hits (200), doubles (53), home runs (32), RBI (132), total bases (355) and putouts (890).

A native of Hays, Washburn graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2009 with a bachelor of science in sports management and a minor in business administration. He is married to former Tiger softball player Emily (Herl) Washburn. They have two children; Tessa and Rudy.
