Tomas Mares has been named Athlete of the Week after helping Tiger men's soccer to a 2-0 start this season. Mares scored twice in the 3-2 win over South Dakota School of Mines. The Tigers opened the season with a 4-1 win over Colorado Christian.

Mares totaled two goals over the weekend, both coming in the 3-2 victory over South Dakota School of Mines. After going behind 1-0 early against Mines, Mares scored the equalizer. The Hardrockers went up 2-1 but Joe Albright tied it at 2-2. Mares tallied the gamewinner in 52nd minute to give the Tigers a 3-2 win and a 2-0 start, the best start for the Tigers in their short two-year history.

In the 4-1 win over Colorado Christian, the Tigers scoring was provided by Daniel Peralta (2), Diego Cabral and Jaccob Rangel. Mares and Peralta currently lead the Tigers with two goals each.

FHSU kicks off its home schedule with the FHSU Soccer Classic this weekend. The Tigers play University of Sioux Falls on Friday at 8:30 p.m. then take on Colorado Mesa on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
