Alex Nelson has been named Athlete of the Week for her performance with the FHSU women’s cross country team. Nelson helped the Tigers to a third place finish at the FHSU Tiger Open at Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria.

Nelson was the top Tiger in the event with a third place finish. She broke up what could have been a top-three sweep by Northwest Missouri State, as the Bearcats had the individual champ, second and fourth place runners. Nelson finished the 5k event in 18:26.

The top three was tight with FHSU totaling 49 points. Two points ahead of the Tigers was Colorado College with 47 points. Northwest Missouri State won the event with 40 points.

The Tigers return to action on Oct. 20 at the MIAA Championships in Maryville, Mo. The event starts at 10 a.m.
