Derek Koehn has been named Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Newman Invitational over the weekend. Koehn also was named MIAA Wrestler of the Week for his performance.

Koehn went 3-1 for the week and was the champion of the Newman Invitational at 157 pounds on Sunday. After a first round bye, Koehn won three straight matches to take his respective weight class. He opened with a 7-2 victory over Trent Robb of Neosho County Community College. Next he defeated Cory Dauphin of Central Oklahoma, the No. 7 ranked wrestler nationally at 157 pounds by a tight 3-2 margin. This avenged a 2-0 loss to Dauphin just two nights earlier in dual action with UCO. Koehn then knocked off the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 157 pounds in Ouachita Baptist's Bobby Williams by a 2-1 margin to win his class. He is now 17-3 overall on the season.

The 157-pound junior is a native of Pittsburg, Kan. where he competed at Pittsburg High School.
