With 11 shutouts for the 2016 season, goalkeeper Abbie Flax tied the FHSU single-season record for shutouts. She finished the season 13-5-3 overall, also tying the single-season record for wins by a goalkeeper.

In the Central Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, Flax came up with two diving saves in the shootout session of a 2-2 tie with Minnesota State. The saves allowed FHSU to win the shootout 4-2 and advance to its first-ever NCAA Central Regional Championship match.
