Taylor Elkinton earned Athlete of the Week honors after helping the Tiger volleyball team to a 2-0 record over the weekend. FHSU defeated MIAA opponents Missouri Southern (3-0) and Southwest Baptist (3-2), upping the Tigers record to 17-13 on the season and 5-10 in the MIAA.
Elkinton, a freshman from Wichita, Kan., played a key role in the victory over SBU, helping jump start the Tigers in the second and third sets. She finished the match with 28 assists as she split time with Kayla Zoglman at setter. Elkinton added seven digs to go with her 28 assists.
In the straight set win over Missouri Souther, Elkinson came in for an injured Zoglman and provided eight assists in two sets. She also added one dig.
Elkinton is second on the team in assists on the season with 96. In her eight matches, including one start, she averages 5.65 assists a set. Elkinton also has 21 digs, three kills, three service aces and one block assist.
The Tigers are 17-13 this season and 5-10 in the MIAA. The back-to-back MIAA wins are a first for the Tigers since joining the conference. The five wins are the most in the MIAA play for the Tigers.
FHSU finishes the season with three road matches this week. The Tigers travel to Washburn on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and on the weekend go to Emporia State and Central Missouri on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
