Tiger Offense Explodes for 20 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Truman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Tiger softball offense exploded for 20 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Truman in the final two games of the regular season at Tiger Stadium in Hays on Saturday (Apr. 30). Fort Hays State won each game by run-rule in five innings, taking game one 12-0 and game two 8-0. Adriana Wortley hit three home runs in the doubleheader and had seven RBI.

Game 1: FHSU 12, Truman 0

Fort Hays State scored six runs in the first and third innings en route to the 12-0 win in five innings. The Tigers hit four home runs in the game.

Maddie Holub led off the game with a solo blast, then Danie Brinkmann hit another solo bomb to push the lead to 2-0. Malinee Powell scored from third on a throw down to second on a stolen base by Britney Workman, then Adriana Wortley hit a three-run homer to push the lead to 6-0.

In the third, Kayla Rupa made it 7-0 with an RBI double, then Wortley hit her second three-run bomb of the game to make it 10-0. Holub and Brinkmann added RBI singles later in the inning.

Maddie Holub won her fourth consecutive start to move to 12-7 on the season. She allowed just five hits and one walk over the five innings of work with nine strikeouts.

Game 2: FHSU 8, Truman 0

The Tigers jumped out to a fast start in game two as well, scoring twice in the first and second innings to take an early 4-0 lead. They added three in the fourth and then Adriana Wortley ended the doubleheader in the fifth with a solo home run, her third homer of the afternoon.

Erin Dyok scored the first run early from third on a throwing error by the Truman catcher that went wide of second base on a Danie Brinkmann stolen base. Malinee Powell then had an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.

Maddie Holub picked up an RBI double in the second and Powell followed later with her second RBI single of the game. Powell capped her four-RBI game with a two-RBI double in the fourth to push the lead to 6-0. Britney Workman followed with an RBI single to make it 7-0.

Adriana Wortley capped her big seven-RBI day in the fifth with a walk-off solo home run to lift the Tigers to their second run-rule victory on the day.

Kayla Rupa improved to 14-13 on the season with the complete game win. She allowed just three hits, two walks and struck out three. Rupa, along with fellow senior Sara Tani, played in their final two home games at FHSU on Saturday, each four-year seniors from Colorado.
