Tiger Softball to Face Emporia State in MIAA Tourney Opener

Tournament Bracket

Regardless of the outcomes from make-up games being played around the MIAA early this week, Fort Hays State will be the No. 7 seed for the MIAA Softball Championship Tournament this weekend (May 5-7) in Overland Park, Kan. The Tigers open the tournament with No. 2 seed Emporia State. The tournament will be held at the Blue Valley Sports Complex.

The Tigers will enter the conference tournament on a four-game win streak after sweeping doubleheaders against Lincoln and Truman at home this past weekend. Fort Hays State is 26-20 overall and finished with a conference record of 11-11. Fort Hays State is 1-2 against Emporia State this year, splitting the conference doubleheader in Hays and the other loss was at the MIAA South Crossover Tournament in Springfield, Mo. Possible second game opponents will be either No. 3 seed Nebraska-Omaha, or possible No. 6 seeds Central Missouri and Northwest Missouri State. The No. 6 seed will be determined by make-up games early in the week.

Fort Hays State was one of the last three teams standing in the conference tournament last year. The Tigers were the No. 5 seed last year even though they finished in a three-way tie for third in the conference standings. They opened the tournament with a win over Central Missouri before falling to the No. 1 seed Emporia State in the second game on Thursday night. They regrouped to eliminate Northwest Missouri State and Central Missouri on Friday before falling to Nebraska-Omaha in the consolation finals. They were just one win short of playing in the championship against Emporia State.
