Lady Tigers Cruise to 82-37 Win Over Bethany College

Box Score After a sluggish start, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team cruised to an 82-37 victory over Bethany College on Tuesday (Nov. 13) in non-conference action at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers improved to 2-0 to start the season for the fourth straight season.
 
The Tigers started slowly, leading by only one, 8-7, with 12:19 left in the first half. In the final 12 minutes, Fort Hays State outscored Bethany 25-6 to take a 33-13 lead at the end of the first stanza.
 
With the Tigers leading 50-26 midway through the second half, FHSU scored 14-straight points to up the margin to 38 at 64-26 with 6:32 left in the game. The lead grew to as large as 50 points at 82-32 with 1:28 remaining. The Swedes scored the final five points for the 82-37 final score.
 
The trio of Kate Lehman, Katelyn Edwards and Kaiameka Brown all scored in double figures. Lehman led the way with 16 points, Edwards scored 14 points and Brown added 10 points. For the second straight game, Edwards set a career high in steals with six, which was also a game high. Keriann Shaw grabbed eight rebounds to lead the team. Twelve Tigers scored in the game and all 15 Tigers saw game action.
 
The Tigers shot 44.8 percent from the field, including 50 percent in the second half. Despite the 44.8 percent shooting night, the Tigers were only 5-of-29 from 3-point range for 17.2 percent.   
 
FHSU's defense held the Swedes to 35.7 percent shooting, and the defense was especially strong in the first half when Bethany shot 22.7 percent. The defense forced Bethany into 25 turnovers, and FHSU swiped 17 steals. The Swedes were also an abysmal 28.6 percent (4-14) from the free throw line.
 
Heather Eddings was the only Swede in double figures, scoring 10 points. Tasha Wagoner totaled a team-high six rebounds.
 
The Tigers (2-0) are back in action on Saturday (Nov. 17) against Northwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
