Balanced Scoring and a Strong Second Half Push No. 10 Tigers to 10-0 Start

Box Score The No. 10 Fort Hays State women's basketball team is 10-0, its best start in school history, after pulling away from South Dakota School of Mines, 96-58, on Saturday (Dec. 29) at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Five Tigers scored in double figures in the win, the last non-conference game of the season for FHSU.
 
Already up 43-28 at the half, Fort Hays State outscored Mines 53-30 in the second stanza to race out to the win. After allowing the first basket of the second half, the Tigers went on a 21-4 run to pull out to a 64-34 advantage at the 12:18 mark. The Black and Gold led by as many as 48 points at 95-47 with 1:25 left in the contest. The Hardrockers ended the game with an 11-1 run; however, the outcome was already sealed as FHSU won 96-58.
 
Katelyn Edwards led five Tigers in double figures in points as the junior totaled a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs. Melissa Nelson scored 15 points and Kate Lehman, Taylor Chandler and Tera Ingalsbe all poured in 12 points, respectively. Beth Bohuslavsky added nine points and a game-high six assists.
 
As a team, the Tigers shot 51.5 percent from the field and scored a season high in total points. FHSU went 21-of-23 from the free throw line, including making its first 17 of the second half. The defense of the Tigers held Mines to 35.8 percent, including 26.9 percent in the second half. The Tigers also controlled the glass, outrebounding Mines, 46-25.
 
The Tigers return to MIAA action with two straight road games. FHSU goes to Northeastern State on Thursday (Jan. 3) for a 5:30 p.m. game with the Riverhawks, and then the Tigers travel to Emporia State on Saturday (Jan. 5) for a 1:30 p.m. tip against the Hornets.
