Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Going into the bottom of the seventh down 5-4, the Tigers used two home runs, including a walk-off two-run home run from Kellsi Olsen, to lift Fort Hays State to a 7-5 win over the visiting Gorillas of Pittsburg State. In game one of the doubleheader at Tiger Stadium in Hays, Maddie Holub tied her own single game strikeout record, fanning 16 PSU batters in a 5-1 win. With the two victories, the Tigers secured third place in the MIAA, upping their record to 11-7 in the MIAA and 27-17 overall.

Game 1: Fort Hays State 5, Pittsburg State 1

Maddie Holub, who pitched the fifth no-hitter in program history in her last start against NWMSU on Tuesday, was impressive again in the circle for FHSU. Holub tied her own school record, recording 16 strikeouts, which matches the 16 strikeouts she had against UNK in the first game of the 2012 season. Holub, a junior from Hays, started strong, fanning the first five batters she faced. Fourteen of the first 15 outs were via the strikeout, and Holub struck out the side in four of the first five innings.

The Tiger offense got on the board in the second inning as Madison Putman's infield single allowed Amanda Vaupel to score for a 1-0 lead.

After allowing one run in the top of the fifth, FHSU scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead at 4-1. After a PSU error allowed Taylor Nelson to score, Holub homered to right field to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage. FHSU scored their third run of the inning on another Gorilla error.

Nelson hit a solo home run in the sixth for the 5-1 final score.

Holub went the complete seven innings in game one, allowing the one run on five hits while striking out 16.

Game 2: Fort Hays State 7, Pittsburg State 5

Kellsi Olsen's walk-off two-run home run gave the Tigers the victory in the nightcap of the doubleheader. The Tigers went into the seventh down 5-4 and recorded outs in their first two at bats. The two out rally started with an Amanda Vaupel home run to left field to tie the score at 5-5. After a Chelsey Rottinghaus single up the middle, Olsen knocked the first pitch she saw over the left field fence, lifting FHSU to the 7-5 win.

The Tigers pulled out to a 3-0 advantage after two innings. Adriana Wortley's sac fly scored Taylor Nelson in the first and Nelson brought home two in the second on a triple down the right field line.

Pitt State took the lead with back-to-back two run innings in the fourth and fifth, however, the Tigers tied the score at 4-4 in the fifth on a Vaupel sac fly, scoring Holub from third. The Gorillas scored one in the sixth to take the lead, 5-4, before the Tiger seventh inning rally.

Abby Morrison picked up the win in game two, going the final 2.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits. Holub started game two and pitched the first three innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Kaitlyn Shattleroe pitched 1.2 innings and gave up four runs on five hits.

Nelson hit for the cycle in the two-game series. She had a homer and a double in game one, and totaled one triple and two singles in game two. The senior second baseman was 5-of-7 on the day with three RBI.

The Tigers welcome Missouri Southern to Hays tomorrow (April 21) for senior day in FHSU's regular season finale. The twinbill starts at 1 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
