Game 1: Fort Hays State 1, Missouri Southern 0
Maddie Holub tossed a one-hit complete game in game one of the doubleheader. Holub, who just tied her own single game strikeout record yesterday with 16 against Pittsburg State, held the Lions hitless in the first 5.2 innings before MSSU hit a single right back at Holub in the sixth inning. It was one of just two base runners for MSSU all game (one walk). The junior from Hays fanned 15 Lion batters, including seven consecutive.
The Tigers tallied their one run in the second inning as senior
Adriana Wortley scored from third base on a MSSU wild pitch.
Wortley was a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with two singles and the double.
Game 2: Fort Hays State 8, Missouri Southern 3
After going up 3-2, FHSU put up four runs in the fourth to pull away from MSSU. With runners on second and third, senior
Taylor Nelson's RBI single scored two Tiger runs. The Tigers totaled two more runs in the inning on a fielding error by the Lions' rightfielder, doubling the FHSU advantage to 7-3.
Nelson added her third RBI of game two on a single in the fifth, scoring
Kellsi Olsen from second.
The Tigers started game two strong with two runs in the first inning. Holub singled to center field, bringing home Nelson, and
Amanda Vaupel brought home Holub with a RBI double to right.
In the third inning, Holub hit a solo home run, her team-leading seventh of the season to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead after three innings.
FHSU takes on Pittsburg State on Thursday (April 26) in the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City, Kan. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
