Five Fort Hays State men's track and field students athletes were named to the All-Region team, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today (May 15). The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2012 outdoor season.
The five Tigers earning the honor are
Jordan Carlisle,
Jake Durham,
Alex Hendee,
Tim McElroy and Bretty Ottley. Carlisle, McElroy and Ottley all made the Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held on May 24-26 in Pueblo, Colo.
Carlisle was top five in the region in the high jump, where the freshman from St. Joseph, Mo., jumped a season-high 6-10.75 at the Fort Hays State Open, which ranks 16
th-best this season.
Durham earned All-Region in the javelin. The sophomore from Sterling, Kan., went over 200 feet in the javelin, going 201-6 last weekend at the Sam Williams Twilight Qualifier.
Hendee was named All-Region in the 1,500 meter run. A two-time MIAA Track Student-Athlete of the Week this year, Hendee ran a 3:51.64 in the event at the KT Woodman Classic.
Earning All-Region in hammer throw was
Tim McElroy. The senior from Logan, Kan. ranks No. 14 in the hammer with a throw of 197-10, which came at the Alex Francis Classic.
Ottley earned All-Region after finishing top five in the pole vault. The sophomore from Victoria, Kan., has the 11
th-best mark of 16-2 in the event, which he did at the MIAA Championships.
A total of 1,274 athletes receive 1,854 USTFCCCA All-Region nods. The USTFCCCA regions match those used for NCAA Cross Country Championships.
In the team count, Southern Connecticut led all men's squads with 38 nods, followed by Saint Augustine's (26) and Grand Valley State (25).
