Final Results

Fort Hays State had four place-winners at the Bob Smith Open at the Gross Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, led by Trey Page's first-place win at 285 pounds.  Behind Page, Jon Inman was second while Noah Killip and C.J. Napier finished third.
 
Page finished 5-0 on the day, starting with a first-round bye before a 9-0 major decision over Brook Gosch placed him in the quarterfinals.  After a 2-1 overtime victory over Lorenzo Serna of Newman (ranked fifth in the nation), Page reached the championship match by defeating Cody Dauphin of Central Oklahoma, 3-1.  Dauphin is currently ranked third in the nation at 285 pounds.  In the final match of the night, Page won, 10-3, in a decision over Ivan DeLeon of Nebraska-Kearney.
 
Inman went 4-1 for the tournament, dropping his lone contest in the 184 pound championship match to Division I opponent, Nolan Boyd of Oklahoma State.  Inman started the day with a 13-4 major decision against Adams State's Richard Bencomo, following that up with a 18-1 technical fall over Quade Woofter of Colby Community College.  In the quarterfinal bout, Inman picked up his lone fall of the day, pinning Trevor Whittaker in 1:25 to set up a semifinal match with New Mexico Highland's Igor Gomzin.  Inman won that match by decision, 8-2.
 
Napier's day started with a first-round bye at 141 pounds, setting up a decision victory over Air Force's Cody Hancock (3-2) in the second round.  A 9-5 decision over Dan Gaylor (New Mexico Highlands) sent Napier to the quarterfinals, where he topped Klay Kasik of Nebraska-Kearney, 9-5.  Napier's lone loss of the day came to Oklahoma State's Dean Heil, an NCAA Division I opponent, in a close 5-4 decision.  In the wrestleback rounds, Napier topped Martin Ramirez, 8-4, to head for the third-place match.  Napier sealed his 6-1 record on the day with a 4-0 shutout of Colt Rogers (Bethany) to grab third.
 
The Tigers' final place-winner of the day, Noah Killip, went 6-1 overall.  After a first-round bye, Killip reached the quarterfinals with two straight pins – a 1:54 win by fall against John Risewick (Bethany) and a 32 second pin against Aaron Tarin (Pratt CC).  Killip's pin streak was snapped in the quarterfinals, but a 7-0 decision sent the 149-pounder to the semifinals for a matchup against MIAA foe Jordan Basks of Central Oklahoma.  Basks, ranked second in the NCAA at 149 pounds, defeated Killip by fall in 5:59.  In the consolation semifinals, Killip won by decision over Air Force's Zachary Stepan, 8-4, sending him to a third-place match against Ryan Fillingame (ranked No. 1 at 141 pounds).  Killip slipped by Fillingame, 7-5, to knock off the ranked opponent and finish third.
