The Fort Hays State women's basketball team travels to Topeka, Kan. on Saturday to face fifth-ranked Washburn. Washburn is the top ranked team in the Central Region, while FHSU is 10th in the first set of regional rankings, released earlier in the week on Wednesday. FHSU enters at 18-5 overall, 10-5 in the MIAA, while Washburn is 20-3 overall, 14-1 in the MIAA.
The Lady Tigers enter the game on a six-game win streak, which includes four straight wins at home followed by two straight on the road. FHSU looks to make it three in a row on the road on Saturday and improve its position in the regional rankings. Washburn enters the game leading the MIAA standings, while FHSU is currently in sixth. Washburn enters the game on a nine-game win streak.
Washburn won the first meeting between the teams earlier this year in Hays by a score of 63-60. Both teams were ranked nationally in that game, WU at No. 12 in the nation and FHSU at No. 18 in the nation. Fort Hays State is looking for its first win in Topeka since the 1994-95 season, as the Lady Blues have won nine straight against the Lady Tigers in Topeka.
Kate Lehman leads FHSU at 15.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.0 blocked shots per game.
Katelyn Edwards also averages double figures in scoring at 13.0 points per game, while adding 7.8 rebounds per game.
