Fort Hays State was held to its lowest scoring output of the season in a 61-41 loss at fifth-ranked Washburn on Saturday night (Feb. 23) in Topeka, Kan. FHSU shot just 20.8 percent from the field and was 0-of-12 beyond the 3-point line. FHSU moved to 18-6 overall and 10-6 in the MIAA with the loss. Washburn moved to 21-3 and 15-1 in the MIAA.
The Lady Tigers struggled in both halves shooting the ball, just 27.3 percent from the field in the first half and 15.4 percent in the second half. Despite the shooting struggles, FHSU managed to only trail by eight at halftime 28-20. Washburn, which shot just under 36 percent in the first half, warmed to 50 percent in the second half to pull away for the win on its home floor.
Kate Lehman was the only Lady Tiger to finish in double figures with 22 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field and a 10-of-13 effort at the free-throw line. She added five rebounds and six blocked shots.
Katelyn Edwards followed with nine points and
Tera Ingalsbe added eight. Outside those three players, the remainder of the team was 0-of-20 from the field.
Keriann Shaw and
Taylor Chandler were the only other players to score for FHSU, each with just one point.
Laura Kinderknecht led Washburn in scoring with 18 points, followed by Stormye Everett with 12 and Casyn Buchman with 10.
Fort Hays State returns home for its final two regular season games, hosting Missouri Western Wednesday (Feb. 27) and Lincoln Friday (Mar. 1).
