Lady Tigers Cruise to 87-63 Win Over Lopers in Hays

Fort Hays State cruised to an 87-63 win over Nebraska-Kearney in Hays on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 9). The Lady Tigers led by nine at halftime then pulled away in the second half for the 24-point win. The Lady Tigers finished the four-game homestand perfect and moved to 16-5 overall and 8-5 in the MIAA. Nebraska-Kearney is now 6-14 overall, 3-10 in the MIAA.

Nebraska-Kearney kept the lead at single figures by halftime with hot shooting in the first half at 68 percent. Fort Hays State buckled down defensively in the second half and held the Lopers to just 32.1 percent after the break. A big difference maker in the game for FHSU was forcing UNK into 23 turnovers, which led the 27 points. Fort Hays State's largest lead was 30 points with just over a minute remaining.

Traci Keyser had the hot hand for the Lady Tigers with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. She was 5-of-10 beyond the 3-point line and 3-of-5 at the free-throw line. It was a season high in points for Keyser. Kate Lehman had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and was just three blocked shots shy of a triple-double with seven in the game. Tera Ingalsbe added 13 points off the bench and Katelyn Edwards had 12.

Fort Hays State had 15 steals out of the 23 turnovers committed by UNK. Taylor Chandler led FHSU in steals with four.

Four players finished in double figures scoring for Nebraska-Kearney, led by Melissa Norman with 15. Queen Ohamara had 14 and Ivy Jones and Nicole Arp each had 10. Jones finished with a team-high eight assists.

Fort Hays State heads on the road for three in a row, basically having a replay of this week as it plays at Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday and Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday. The road swing ends the following Saturday at Washburn. FHSU finishes the regular season with two straight home games.
