Fort Hays State softball heads on the road to Colorado for a pair of non-conference doubleheaders on Tuesday (Mar. 19) and Wednesday (Mar. 20) at Colorado Christian and Metro State. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division II, entering the poll last week. FHSU enters this week with an overall record of 19-3.

Fort Hays State went 6-0 this past week after sweeping a non-conference doubleheader at Newman, then sweeping conference doubleheaders on the road at Emporia State and Washburn. The doubleheader sweep at Emporia State was a rare feat, the first time a team has swept the Hornets in a doubleheader in Emporia since 2002, nearly an 11-year span. Following the sweep of the defending conference champions on Friday, the Tigers belted seven home runs in the doubleheader at Washburn on Saturday.

Several Tigers had solid offensive performances this past week. Maddie Holub belted four home runs and drove in 10, while hitting .409 and slugging 1.045 last week and now leads the MIAA in homers with 10. Tori Beltz matched Holub in RBI production for the week with 10, while also picking up the first two home runs of her collegiate career. Amanda Vaupel led the Tigers in batting average for the week at .565, going 13-for-23 at the dish, while also scoring a team-high eight runs for the week. Courtney Dobson and Jenna Lang also picked up their first collegiate homers at Washburn and Kellsi Olsen also went yard for the first time this year.

Meanwhile, the pitching staff continues to dazzle in the circle. Maddie Holub went 3-0 last week and picked up her second save of the season. She is now at 10-0 overall with a 0.49 ERA, while averaging 12.2 strikeouts per seven innings. She was right on that average last week with 35 punchouts in 20.1 innings of work. Holub is the reigning Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Pitcher of the Week and MIAA Hitter and Pitcher of the Week. Paxton Duran went 2-0 last week, picking up wins at Emporia State and Washburn, while Jordan Jones was 1-0, getting a win in relief at Newman. The Tigers continue to lead the MIAA in ERA at 1.25. The Tigers have allowed one run or less in 13 games this year, which includes seven shutouts.
