Box Score 2 The 11th-ranked Fort Hays State softball team moved to 41-9 overall and 21-5 in the MIAA with a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln University on Friday afternoon (Apr. 26) at Tiger Stadium in Hays, Kan. The Tigers clinched at least second place in the MIAA and now waits to see the results of other action around the conference on Saturday and Sunday for its seed and first-round opponent in the conference tournament. The MIAA Tournament will be May 2-5 in Overland Park, Kan.
Game 1: Fort Hays State 8, Lincoln 1
Fort Hays State grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a
Danie Brinkmann two-RBI double. Lincoln plated an unearned run in the third, but Fort Hays State put the game away with a six-run sixth inning.
Kellsi Olsen drew a bases loaded walk to begin the scoring in the sixth.
Bianca Adame followed with a two-RBI single, then
Courtney Dobson had a RBI double and
Maddie Holub had a RBI single.
Holub allowed just three hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts in the pitching circle, throwing her 20th complete game of the season. She moved to 24-1 on the season with the win. Holub broke two school records on offense in the game, breaking her own single-season record for runs scored in a season and she became the all-time leader in hits at FHSU with her double in the first inning, moving past the old record of 246.
Game 2: Fort Hays State 9, Lincoln 0
Fort Hays State started game two the same way it did game one, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Maddie Holub had a RBI groundout and
Danie Brinkmann had a sacrifice fly RBI.
Holub started game two in the circle, keeping the Blue Tigers scoreless for two innings until Erin Kinberger handed the ball over to
Paxton Duran. Duran settled in to get two groundball double plays in the third and fourth and limited the Blue Tigers to just one hit in her three innings of work. Duran and Holub combined to hold the Blue Tigers to two hits.
Fort Hays State won the game in run-rule fashion, plating four more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. In the fourth,
Paxton Duran picked up a RBI on a fielder's choice and
Tori Beltz followed with a three-run home run. In the fifth,
Amanda Vaupel hit a three-run walk-off home run for the win.
Duran picked up the win, moving to 15-7 overall on the season.
