The Fort Hays State softball team plays in the MIAA Softball Championship Tournament on Thursday (May 2) at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex in Overland Park, Kan. The No. 2 seed FHSU takes on No. 7 seed Pittsburg State in the first round at 6 pm. All four fields at the complex will have action at both 6 and 8 pm on Thursday.
The Tigers are currently ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II and enter the tournament at 41-9 overall. The Tigers finished 21-5 in the MIAA, good for second place alone. Pittsburg State enters the tournament at 28-20 overall and finished MIAA play at 16-12. FHSU and PSU will play on Field 24 at the complex.
Top-seeded Central Oklahoma, the conference regular season champion, takes on No. 8 seed Northwest Missouri State as the teams just met in a doubleheader this past Sunday. Fourth-seed Emporia State takes on fifth-seed Northeastern State and No. 3 seed Missouri Western takes on No. 6 seed Truman in other first round games.
Potential 8 pm opponents on Thursday for Fort Hays State will be either No. 3 seed Missouri Western or No. 6 seed Truman. The tournament is double elimination format.
