Tigers Shutout MWSU and UCO; Holub Hurls No-Hitter on Backend of 2-Hitter

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The bats of Amanda Vaupel and Tori Beltz, coupled with a pair of complete game shutout performances by Maddie Holub pushed Fort Hays State in the MIAA Tournament Championship Game on Sunday. After throwing a two-hitter in a 3-0 win over Missouri Western, Holub took the ball again in the game against 12th-ranked Central Oklahoma that immediately followed and threw her sixth no-hitter of the season in a 5-0 win. Fort Hays State is now 44-9 overall and will face the winner of the loser's bracket final at 12 pm Sunday.

Fort Hays State 3, Missouri Western 0

Locked in a pitcher's dual between All-MIAA First Team pitchers Maddie Holub and Jackie Bishop, Fort Hays State and Missouri Western played to a scoreless tie through six innings.

Courtney Dobson broke up a no-hit bid by Bishop to lead off the seventh inning, then Missouri Western opted to intentionally walk Holub with no outs. Amanda Vaupel made the Griffons pay for that decision two batters later as she lined a missle over the left center field wall for a three-run home run, giving the Tigers a nice cushion heading into the last half of the seventh.

Holub, who allowed just a pair of singles to the Griffons, worked a 1-2-3 seventh to send the Tigers into the winner's bracket final. Holub moved to 26-1 overall on the season with 10 strikeouts in the game. It was her 12th shutout of the season. Bishop moved to 21-7 on the season with the loss.

Fort Hays State 5, Central Oklahoma 0

After going the distance against Missouri Western, Maddie Holub took the ball once again against 12th-ranked Central Oklahoma in the championship bracket final. Holub dug deep to hold Central Oklahoma hitless for her sixth no-hitter of the season and seventh complete game no-hitter of her career. It was her second no-hitter of the tournament after throwing a five-inning no-hitter against Pittsburg State in the tournament opener on Friday.

Holub struck out five, walked one, and hit two batters. She moved to 27-1 overall on the season with the win and posted her 13th shutout of the season and third of the tournament.

In the third inning, Danie Brinkmann was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to generate the first Tiger run, then Vaupel continued her clutch hitting for the day with a two-RBI single. In the sixth, Tori Beltz hit a two-run home run to give the Tigers insurance runs.

Fort Hays State will see who it plays just before it starts at 12 pm on Sunday. The loser's bracket final is at 10 am on Sunday.
