Box Score Three Tigers had double-doubles as Fort Hays State University pulled off a historic upset over No. 3 Emporia State, 72-57, on Thursday evening at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

FHSU's win over the Lady Hornets was the program's first Top 5 victory during its NCAA history, and snapped a 15-game losing streak to ESU.  The Tigers moved to 14-4 (7-4 MIAA) with the win, while ESU dropped just its second game of the season, falling to 18-2 (9-2 MIAA).

Katelyn Edwards, Kate Lehman and Tera Ingalsbe had double-doubles for FHSU.  Edwards led the team with 20 points and 12 rebounds, dishing out five assists for her fifth double-double of the season.  Ingalsbe recorded her first career double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds and tallying 15 points.  Lehman's 29th career double-double came to the tune of 12 points and 14 rebounds.  Ingalsbe and Lehman added three and four blocks, respectively.

Edwards moved past two career milestones during the game and now has 611 rebounds and 202 assists in a Tiger uniform.  Lehman moved into the Top 15 all-time for career blocks in NCAA Division II history.

Nikola Kacperska started her first game of the season, making the most of the opportunity with eight points, two steals and three assists, while fellow guard Beth Bohuslavsky had five points, three steals and three assists.

As a team, the Tigers out hustled ESU on the boards, 59 to 41, and though each team shot 35.2 percent from the field, FHSU hit on 70.4 percent (19-of-27) of its free throws, compared to 6-of-14 from ESU (42.9 percent).

Down 4-2 just 2:10 into the game, Edwards scored nine unanswered for the Tigers over the next went on a 9-0 run by herself over the next 3:27, giving FHSU the lead for good, up 11-4.

After a bucket at the 13:09 mark pulled ESU within four (13-9), Edwards again hit a jumper to spark a 10-1 run for the Tigers, pushing the lead to double-digits (23-10).

ESU made another run soon after, shrinking the Tigers' lead to five with 2:38 to go in the half.  Free throws from Lehman and Paige Lunsford, along with a layup from Ingalsbe with 13 seconds remaining sent FHSU into the break with a 11 point lead, 34-23.

Fort Hays State and the Lady Hornets traded field goals for the first three minutes of the second, as the lead switched between 11 and 13 until 16:47.  At that point, two free throws from Lehman started a 9-0 spurt for the Tigers (including four from Kacperska) over the next 54 seconds to give FHSU a 49-29 lead.

That 20-point margin proved to be the largest lead of the night for FHSU, though the Tigers would reach it on five separate occasions on the evening.  After ESU climbed back to a 15-point deficit (58-43) just inside the 11-minute mark, Lunsford hit a 3-pointer with 10:06 on the clock that shut the door on the Lady Hornets' comeback hopes.

The final 20-point lead of the night (65-45) for FHSU came with 6:50 to go, as Ingalsbe scored her final points of the evening – a jump shot from just outside the paint.

ESU's Desiree Wylie scored the game's final basket – a layup with 30 seconds to go – as FHSU ran out the clock for the conference victory.
