Women's Basketball defeats NSU 55-39; Lehman with second triple-double of season

Box Score Fort Hays State women's basketball defeated Northeastern State 55-39 on Friday (Feb. 28) at Gross Memorial Coliseum, aided by Kate Lehman's second triple-double of the season. FHSU wrapped up its regular season on a three-game win streak.
 
FHSU (19-7, 12-7 MIAA) limited NSU (10-16, 7-12 MIAA) to just 15 first half points while forcing 11 RiverHawk turnovers (including eight steals).
 
The Tigers' Kate Lehman posted her second triple-double of the season, finishing with 10 points, 17 rebounds and 10 blocks.  Lehman's totals in rebounds and blocks tied her career-best marks.  The junior center added three assists in 30 minutes played.
 
On senior night, Katelyn Edwards put up her sixth double-double of the season in points (10) and rebounds (12). 
 
Beth Bohuslavsky's 12 points led the team, as she shot 4-of-8 from the field to go with three rebounds. 
 
FHSU never trailed in the game, though the team scored just two points in the opening seven minutes.  Up 2-1 with 12:43 to go in the game, FHSU started a 10-2 that sent the game inside the 10-minute mark with the Tigers leading, 12-3. 
 
That run was the majority of FHSU's offensive production in the first half, as the teams combined to shoot just 14-for-59 in the opening 20 minutes.  FHSU led, 24-15 at the break.
 
Out of the half, FHSU gave up three points in the first three minutes but answered with a 7-0 run of its own to take a 31-18 lead with just over 15 minutes to go.
 
With just over seven minutes to play, FHSU broke off on its final run of the night, scoring five unanswered as part of a larger 10-3 run that brought the game inside four minutes and the Tigers up by 17, 51-34.
 
The Tigers' largest lead of the night came inside the final minute as Jill Faxon hit a layup to give FHSU an 18-point lead.  The Tigers would win by 16 after NSU hit a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining.
 
FHSU now awaits for the official brackets for the MIAA Tournament to be released. The Tigers will host an opening round game on Monday (March 3).  Official game time and opponent is yet to be determined.
