Fort Hays State welcomes Northeastern State to Gross Memorial Coliseum this Saturday (Jan. 17) for an MIAA matchup at 2 p.m.
The Tigers (15-1, 8-0 MIAA) and the RiverHawks (8-7, 4-4 MIAA) have split their four matchups as members of the MIAA, including a narrow 48-49 loss for FHSU last season in Tahlequah, Okla. The Tigers did, however, pick up a 55-39 victory in the regular season finale of 2014, during which
Kate Lehman recorded her second career triple-double (10 points, 17 rebounds, 10 blocks).
In the midst of a 14-game winning streak, FHSU has seen
Chelsea Mason (13.3 points per game) establish herself as the Tigers' No. 2 scorer behind
Kate Lehman (20.6 points per game) while
Keriann Shaw (6.1 rebounds per game) and Lehman (10.4 rebounds per game) have crashed the boards in impressive fashion. Over the last four games, both Shaw and Lehman have totaled 46 rebounds, while Lehman has put up double-doubles in all four performances with Shaw tallying the first two of her career. Defensively, Lehman continues to rack up the blocks with 450 for her career and 76 on the season. She now holds the Top 4 spots on FHSU's single season blocks record list.
The 14 consecutive wins is tied for second longest in program history – matching the Tigers effort during the 1990-91 season, and have won all 10 matchups at home this year. Additionally, FHSU, which is the top vote getter among those in the receiving votes category of the WBCA Top 25, sits alone in first place of the MIAA standings, one game ahead of No. 3 Emporia State.
Saturday's game is No. 100 at Gross Memorial Coliseum for head coach
Tony Hobson, who has won 80 of the 99 games at home. Of the 19 losses, nine have come against team's ranked in the Top 25.
NSU has lost its last two games, though they received votes earlier in the year for the WBCA Top 25. Chelsey Beathard (10.9 ppg) and Fontana Tate (9.9 ppg) lead the team in scoring, while Tate's 4.5 rebounds per game is a team-high. Both Beathard and Tate also have 27 assists on the year.
