Fort Hays State heads east this weekend for a two-game road swing, starting in St. Charles, Mo., against Lindenwood. The Tigers and Lady Lions square off on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m., from Hyland Arena.
The Tigers (12-1, 5-0 MIAA) are winners of 11 straight and sit first in the MIAA, tied with No. 1 Emporia State.
Kate Lehman (22.1 points, 10.2 rebounds per game) leads the Tigers with nine 20-plus scoring games this season, joined by
Chelsea Mason (13.8 points per game) and
Jill Faxon (10.0 points per game) as the Tigers' top offensive threats. Lehman is within three points of overtaking the No. 4 spot on FHSU's career scoring list and has 1,549 points in her career. Additionally, the Tigers' center has seven double-doubles, one triple-double and 61 blocks this season. Lehman was also named MIAA Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year last week. Beth Bohuslavsky once against has provided consistency, ranking fifth in NCAA Division II with a 3.4 assist-to-turnover ratio, dishing out 56 assists on the season while coming just 15 turnovers with 8.8 points per game.
FHSU is the second highest vote getter in the receiving votes section of the WBCA Top 25, sitting just outside with the 27th highest total. As of Jan. 5, the Tigers were first in NCAA Division II in scoring margin (plus-29.2) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.71).
LWU (7-5, 1-5 MIAA) has lost two straight and five of its last seven, though they sport the top rebounder in the conference in Vanessa Zailo (13.9 rebounds per game). On the offensive end, Zailo is third in points per game (6.7) behind Kassiby Gengenbacher's 19.6 points per game and Jenny Rocha's 12.8 scoring average.
