HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team returns home to open up a seven-game home stand Wednesday (Dec. 7) when it hosts Washburn University. First tip between the Tigers and Ichabods is set for 5:30 p.m. from Gross Memorial Coliseum.
Â
Both teams enter the contest 6-2 on the year, but there are not many other similarities between the teams. The Tigers opened the year with six-straight wins before dropping their last two, while Washburn heads into the midweek matchup on a four-game winning streak. The Tigers have displayed one of the more explosive offenses in the country, averaging 86 points per game, nearly 18 points higher than Washburn's 68.5 ppg average.
Â
Washburn owns a sizeable advantage in the all-time series, leading 46-30 overall and 20-16 in games played in Hays. The Tigers are 5-11 against the Bods under
Tony Hobson, going 4-4 at home in that timeframe. Fort Hays State does own a three-game winning streak dating back to 2014, its longest winning streak in the series since 1981-83.
Â
Jill Faxon leads a balanced Tiger offense with 12.0 points per game. The senior needs just 30 points to become the 18th member of the 1,000-point club at FHSU.
Nikola Kacperska ranks 11th in the conference with 3.6 assists per contest.
Tatyana Legette grabs a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game and junior
Emma Stroyan leads the MIAA with 2.6 blocks per game.
Â
Erika Lane scores 10.9 points and dishes out 2.6 assists per game to lead the Ichabods, with Alyxis Bowens grabbing a team-best 5.9 rebounds per contest.
