Tiger Wrestling Announces 2016-17 Signings

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State wrestling has announced its signings for the 2016-17 season. Head coach Chas Thompson signed 15 individuals for the upcoming season, which includes four individuals that won state championships during their prep careers.
 
The signing class includes Wyatt Alvis, Charlie Boatman, Austin Brandt, Conrad Cole, Brendon Crum, Thomas Elvin, Micah Felton, Matt Mejia, Kyler Mick, Dakota Miller, Efe Osaghae, Brady Packard, Marty Verhaeghe, Braden Visnieski, and Jordan Williams.
 
Alvis, a native of Arlington, Texas, competed at Martin High School. Projected at 133 pounds at FHSU, Alvis was a three-time district champ and a two-time state placer. He placed twice at Mid-American nationals and was a freestyle state champion. He was the 2015 UIL 6A state champion as a junior.
 
Boatman is a native of Cedar Park, Texas, and competed at Vista Ridge High School. Projected at 149 pounds at FHSU, Boatman put together a prep record of 106-35. He was a state placer during his junior year and put together an impressive 39 wins in his senior season.
 
Brandt comes to FHSU from Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas. Projected to wrestle at 174 pounds, he put together a career record of 139-28. He placed second in the state as a senior at 182 pounds, going 43-2, and third as a junior going 34-4. He posted over 25 wins in all four years of his prep career.
 
Cole is a native of Brush, Colo., and transfers to FHSU from the University of Wyoming. He redshirted the 2015-16 at Wyoming. Cole was a two-time state champion in Colorado for Brush High School. He won the 126 pound weight class as a senior, going 41-2 for the season, and won the 113 pound weight class as a sophomore, going 43-2 that season. He also was state runner-up at 120 pounds as a junior (36-6) and took third as a freshman at 106 pounds (35-5). Altogether, Cole had a career prep record of 155-15. He projects to wrestle at 125 or 133 pounds at FHSU.
 
Crum is a native of Holly, Colo., where he competed for Holly High School. Projected to wrestle at 133 pounds, he put together a career prep record of 131-25. He finished as the state runner-up at 132 pounds as a senior, going 35-4 for the year. He was fifth as a sophomore at 120 pounds.
 
Elvin comes to FHSU from Lucas, Texas, where he competed for Lovejoy High School. Projected at 285 pounds, he placed third in the state as a heavyweight during his senior year, going 46-5.
 
Felton transfers to FHSU from Pratt Community College, where he competed for two seasons. He was a two-time national qualifier at 184 pounds and finished seventh nationally in his sophomore season. A native of Junction City, Kan., he competed at Junction City High School. He was the Class 6A state runner-up as a senior at 170 pounds. Felton is projected to compete at 197 pounds at FHSU.
 
Mejia joins the program from Camp Verde, Ariz., where he attended Camp Verde High School. He was a two-time state champion, putting together an impressive career prep record of 175-12. He went undefeated as a senior at 34-0, winning the 132 pound state title. As a freshman, he won the state title at 106 pounds with a record of 52-1. He was the state runner-up as a junior at 132 pounds, going 44-3, and placed fourth as a sophomore at 120 pounds, going 45-8. Mejia projects to wrestle at 133 or 141 pounds at FHSU.
 
Mick comes to Fort Hays State from Bennington High School in Bennington, Kan. He was a two-time state placer at 160 pounds in Kansas Class 3-2-1A, finishing third as a junior at 40-2 and runner-up as a senior at 39-3. He put together an impressive overall prep record of 125-23. He projects to wrestle at 165 pounds at FHSU.
 
Miller comes to Fort Hays State from Odessa, Mo., where he was a three-time state champion at Odessa High School. Miller won state titles at three different weight classes. As a senior, he was champion at 126 pounds with a record of 44-3. As a junior, he won the 120-pound title going 52-2 overall. As a freshman at 106 pounds, he won the title by going 51-1. He was undefeated as a sophomore all the way up to the state competition at 120 pounds, but took third by going 47-1 overall. Miller had an amazing record of 203-7 in high school, winning at least 44 matches all four years. Miller projects to wrestle at 125 pounds.
 
Osaghae heads to Fort Hays State from St. Louis, Mo., where he competed at McCluer North High School. He was a state placer as a junior, finishing fourth at 138 pounds by going 37-6. He went 36-4 overall as a senior at 145 pounds. He put together a career record of 112-24. He projects to wrestle at 149 pounds at FHSU.
 
Packard competed at Topeka High School in Topeka, Kan. He was a 2016 state qualifier in Kansas Class 6A at 152 pounds, finishing his season at 29-18. He projects to wrestle in the middle weights for FHSU.
 
Verhaeghe comes to FHSU from Blue Valley Southwest High School in Overland Park, Kan. He was a three-time state placer, earning fourth as a junior at 120 pounds going 41-6 and fifth as a senior at 126 pounds going 32-4. He also earned sixth place honors as a freshman at 106 pounds, going 33-14. Verhaeghe put together a career record of 143-36 in high school. He projects to wrestle at 141 pounds at FHSU.
 
Visnieski is a native of Harrah, Okla., where he wrestled at Harrah High School. He was a two-time state placer at 120 pounds, earning third place as a senior at 31-7 and fourth place as a junior at 29-7. He projects to wrestle at 125 pounds for the Tigers.
 
Williams comes to FHSU from Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Mo. He was a state qualifier his senior year in Class 4A, winning over 30 matches in the heavyweight class. He projects to wrestle at 285 pounds for the Tigers.
 
The signing class includes Wyatt Alvis, Charlie Boatman, Austin Brandt, Conrad Cole, Brendon Crum, Thomas Elvin, Micah Felton, Matt Mejia, Kyler Mick, Dakota Miller, Efe Osaghae, Brady Packard, Marty Verhaeghe, Braden Visnieski, and Jordan Williams.
