Tigers Face Off with No. 9 Central Oklahoma for Annual Pink Game

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to three games Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11) when ninth-ranked Central Oklahoma comes to town. First tip with the Bronchos is set for 2 p.m. inside Gross Memorial Coliseum.

Saturday will be the annual Pink Game at FHSU, with sales of limited edition t-shirts raising money to fight breast cancer. Fans wearing pink will receive an upper-level ticket for just $2. SAAC will also be hosting its annual silent auction to support Make-A-Wish this weekend.

The Tigers carry a 17-6 overall record into the weekend, including an 8-6 mark in MIAA play, good for sixth in the conference standings. They have clinched a spot in the MIAA tournament for the sixth-straight year, but still have work to do to secure a home game. FHSU is two games clear of ninth place with five games yet to play.

The Bronchos have dropped their last two contests after starting the year 20-1, falling into a three-way tie for second in the league at 11-3. Ranked ninth in the country, they are currently the highest ranked team in the Central Region.

Fort Hays State leads the all-time series, 7-2, winning all five games played in Hays. The Tigers are 6-1 against the Bronchos under Tony Hobson. The teams split the season series last year, with both sides winning on their home floor. Fort Hays State had won seven in a row against UCO before falling in the season finale last year.

A win Saturday would give Fort Hays State 800 wins all-time. The Tigers are 799-474 in their 48-year history.

Carly Heim has been a major contributor since being added to the starting lineup five games ago, averaging 9.8 points per game over that span. Nikola Kacperska has also been heating up of late, knocking down at least two three-pointers in six of the last seven games, including four in each of the last two contests. Tatyana Legette's 11 rebounds Thursday helped her raise her team-best average to 7.2 boards per night.

The Bronchos thrive with blocked shots and limiting its opponents to just 34.1 percent from the field, ninth-best in the country. Melinda Murillo leads UCO with 15.0 points per game with two teammates also scoring in double figures on a nightly basis. 6-foot, 5-inch forward Jesheon Cooper blocks more than three shots per contest, ranking eighth in Division II. She also leads the team with 8.8 boards per game, second in the league.
