The 11th-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team travels to Kearney, Neb. for an old fashioned RMAC shootout this weekend, with games against UC-Colorado Springs and Chadron State on the schedule. The Tigers kick things off against the UCCS Mountain Lions at 5 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 24) before taking on the Eagles Sunday (Nov. 25) at 2 p.m.
Fort Hays State looks to maintain its perfect record on the season, heading into the weekend 3-0 so far this year. UC-Colorado Springs is off to an 0-2 start while Chadron State is 1-3 through two weeks this year.
The Tigers are 7-4 all-time against UCCS, including a 30-point win a year ago in which the Tigers set an MIAA record with 36 points in the first quarter. FHSU is 24-11 all-time against the Eagles, with the last meeting coming back in 2006 when the Tigers were still in the RMAC. FHSU is 1-0 against UC-Colorado Springs under head coach
Tony Hobson while this will be his first meeting with Chadron State.
Fort Hays State is 11-1 in regular season neutral site contests under Hobson, with the lone loss coming back in 2008.
UC-Colorado Springs is off to an 0-2 start, falling to West Texas A&M and TexasPermian Basin to start the year. Jae Ferrin paces the Mountain Lions with 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She has hit more than 62 percent of her shots so far this season, helping lift the Mountain Lions' team shooting percentage to 38.2 percent.
Chadron State has opened the year 1-3, including three-straight losses heading into the weekend. The Eagles are averaging 48.8 points per game, including 8.5 per contest each for McKenna McClintic and Taryn Foxen. McClintic is also tied for the team lead in rebounding, grabbing 5.0 boards per night alongside Rebecca Stevenson.
