Fort Hays State Softball is scheduled to play a pair of doubleheaders against Nebraska-Kearney to close out the 2018 season on Sunday (Apr. 22) and Monday (Apr. 23). The Tigers are slated to play the two mandated conference games in Kearney on Sunday, now set to start at 3 pm, then host the Lopers in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday in Hays at 1 pm.
Â
The pair of games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but a rainy weekend in both Kearney and Hays forced the games to move back a day. Both teams have now been eliminated from contention for the MIAA Tournament with the result of other games around the conference on Friday and Saturday. UNK enters the weekend 10
th in the MIAA with a mark of 10-14 to go with its 14-27 overall record. FHSU enters the weekend 13
th in the MIAA, with a conference tally of 7-17 and overall record of 11-35.
Â
The Tigers look to snap a 22-game skid in games away from Hays on Sunday afternoon. FHSU is just 2-27 away from home this year, 1-20 in away games and 1-7 in neutral site games. The last win away from Hays was on February 10 against St. Edward's University in San Antonio, Texas. The Tigers have been much better at home, where they are 9-8 overall this year.
Â
Both teams enter the games with records of 2-6 in their last eight games. Having to contend with weather all year long, Nebraska-Kearney has played only six games at home this year, where they are 2-4.
