Four days removed from its last MIAA doubleheader, which included a win over the nation's No. 2 ranked team, the Fort Hays State softball team returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 6) at home when it hosts Missouri Western. The following day, FHSU will host Northwest Missouri State. Doubleheaders each day begin at 12 pm.

Fort Hays State and Missouri Western sit in a tie for sixth in the MIAA standings, both at 7-5. Overall, FHSU enters Saturday at 14-13, while Missouri Western is 20-14. Both teams have seven MIAA doubleheaders remaining in the quest to make the MIAA Tournament at the start of May in Edmond, Oklahoma. Only the top eight teams in the MIAA qualify for the tournament. FHSU and MWSU have a two-game lead on ninth place in the standings and just a one-game lead on eighth place occupant Nebraska-Kearney.

Northwest Missouri State enters the weekend at 9-14 overall and 4-6 in the MIAA. The Bearcats started MIAA play 0-6, but rattled off four straight wins in conference play at home last week with doubleheader sweeps of Lincoln and Lindenwood. NWMSU will play a pair of games at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday before heading to Hays on Sunday.

Fort Hays State has five players hitting over .300 at the plate through 27 games, led by
Grace Philop at a .378 clip.
Elise Capra and
Bailey Boxberger lead the team in home runs, each with four, while Boxberger is also the team leader in extra-base hits (9) and RBI (24).
Sara Breckbill joins Capra and Boxberger for players with at least 10 RBI for the season, while leading the team in runs scored with 20.
Hailey Chapman leads the Tiger pitching staff with eight wins, seven complete games, and a 3.19 ERA.
