FHSU Notes
Fort Hays State enters this tournament at 1-3 on the season. The Tigers won their season opener over Texas-Permian Basin before falling in their next three contests to West Texas A&M, Lubbock Christian, and Midwestern State. The Tigers have had two weeks after last weekend's doubleheader at Regis (Colo.) was postponed due to weather.
Â
Kristen Reed and
Sara Breckbill are tied for the team lead in batting average, both at .462 after four games of action. Sara Tiffany is right behind at .429. The trio combined for all seven extra-base hits and nine RBIs the team produced during opening weekend. Tiffany and Breckbill were named to the Lubbock Sports College Invitational All-Tournament Team the first week of action.
Â
Hailey Chapman owns a 1.87 ERA through 15 innings of work in the pitching circle. She also leads the staff in strikeouts with 12 so far. The team holds a 3.00 ERA through the first four contests.

Opponent Notes
East Central (2-0 entering tournament)
Fort Hays State and East Central meet for the fourth time in history on Sunday. The Tigers lead the all-time series 2-1, but East Central won the last meeting in 2017 in Bentonville, Arkansas by a score of 6-0. All of the games in the all-time series have been played on neutral fields.
Lily Sale was the only current Tiger to play in the last meeting with East Central.
Southern Nazarene (0-4 entering tournament)
Fort Hays State holds a 4-0 lead in the all-time series with the Crimson Storm. The teams met last year in Lubbock, Texas, where FHSU won 9-5.
Sara Breckbill went 4-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBIs,
Lily Sale had a double and 2 RBIs, and
Kristen Reed had two hits and an RBI in that 9-5 win.
Michaelanne Nelson picked up the win going 6.1 innings with 11 strikeouts and
Hailey Chapman picked up the final two outs. All of the games in the all-time series have been played on neutral fields.
Oklahoma Baptist (0-0 entering tournament)
Fort Hays State meets Oklahoma Baptist for the fifth time in history on Monday. The Bison lead the all-time series 3-1, but they were on the short end of a historic pitching effort by
Michaelanne Nelson last year in Oklahoma City. Nelson threw an 8-inning no-hitter against OBU in a 1-0 win, even holding the Bison scoreless in the international tiebreaker format for extra innings. Nelson became the first player in FHSU history to throw an extra-inning no-hitter and sixth player in program history to throw a complete-game no-hitter.
Terran Caldwell delivered the walk-off hit in the 8th for the Tigers, scoring
Katie Adler.
#12 Oklahoma Christian (2-0 entering tournament)
Fort Hays State looks to reverse its fortune against the No. 12 ranked team in the country. Oklahoma Christian is undefeated in the all-time series at 8-0. The Eagles won 8-1 over the Tigers on their home field last year, but in 2019 the Eagles narrowly won a pair from the Tigers both by a score of 1-0.
Hailey Chapman pitched 5.2 innings against the Eagles last year. All eight of the meetings between these teams have taken place since the 2016 season, and all have been on Oklahoma Christian's home field.
