Softball Makes Weekend Trip to Washburn and Emporia State

Fort Hays State Softball returns to action on Friday and Saturday (Mar. 26-27) in a pair of conference doubleheaders against in-state rivals Washburn and Emporia State. The Tigers enter the weekend with an 8-10 overall record and hold a 2-0 record in MIAA play so far. Washburn enters weekend play at 16-3 overall, 2-0 in the MIAA, while Emporia State is 10-8 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA.

Tiger Notes
-Sara Breckbill leads the team in batting average (.373), extra-base hits (8), and RBIs (15). All eight of her extra-base hits are doubles. She had 9 RBIs in the doubleheader with Lincoln last week in Jefferson City.

-Michaelanne Nelson recorded her first shutout of the season last weekend in the doubleheader with Lincoln. Nelson and Hailey Chapman each have one complete-game shutout in the pitching circle this season. Both have four wins on the season.

-Nelson leads Tiger pitchers in ERA (1.90) and strikeouts (47), while Chapman leads in innings pitched (59.0).

-The Tiger pitching staff has allowed three or less earned runs in 14 of 18 games this season. The team ERA currently sits at 2.65, which currently ranks fourth in the MIAA.

-Fort Hays State is averaging just 0.3 runs per game more than its opponents this season. FHSU has played in five games decided by one run this season, going 2-3 in those contests.
 
Notes vs. Washburn
Washburn holds a 31-22 advantage in the all-time series with Fort Hays State. The Ichabods have won five of the last seven contests. The Tigers gained a split in the 2019 conference doubleheader between the teams in Topeka, winning the second game 6-4 after an 11-2 loss in game one. The Tigers have split the last two conference doubleheaders played with the Ichabods in Topeka.

Washburn enters Friday on an 8-game win streak. The Ichabods won twice at Pittsburg State in their first conference doubleheader of the season.

Notes vs. Emporia State
Emporia State holds a 32-19 advantage in the all-time series with Fort Hays State. The Tigers have won five of the last eight meetings between the teams. The Hornets won swept a doubleheader with the Tigers in Emporia in 2019, both by one run.

Emporia State enters its Friday doubleheader with Nebraska-Kearney on a 6-game losing streak. The Hornets were swept in their conference-opening doubleheader at Pittsburg State.
