The fifth-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team returns to play Monday (Jan. 3) when the Tigers take on Rogers State. Opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside the Claremore Expo Center in Claremore, Okla.
The Tigers (10-1, 4-1 MIAA) are returning to competition two days later than originally planned after Saturday's contest at Northeastern State was postponed. A make-up date for that contest is still to be determined. Rogers State (4-9, 0-7 MIAA) returned from the holiday break with a close battle against No. 10 Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, falling by eight points, 61-53.
Fort Hays State is one of two MIAA programs that has five players averaging in double figures this season (Emporia State).
Katie Wagner paces the team with 15.6 points per game, seventh-most in the league.
Olivia Hollenbeck adds 12.0 points per contest, with
Whitney Randall adding 10.7 points each night.
Lauren West (10.4 ppg) and
Jaden Hobbs (10.3 ppg) are also scoring more than 10 points per game.
Wagner is averaging a double-double in true road games this season, recording 14.5 ppg and 10.0 rpg in the two road contests this year.
Randall (1,151 career points) is five points shy of tying Terrie Sargent (1981-86) for 16th on the all-time scoring list at 1,156 points.
The Tigers are 16-5 in the Sooner State under head coach
Tony Hobson, including wins in seven-straight games in Oklahoma (last loss 72-70 at UCO 2/10/18).
Since the 1979-80 season (when dates of games are known), the Tigers are 10-2 on January 3, with the most recent result a 56-46 win over Central Missouri in 2019 in Warrensburg.
Fort Hays State is 4-0 all-time against the Hillcats, with all four matchups happening over the last two seasons since RSU joined the MIAA as an associate member. The Tigers have won the games by an average margin of victory of 20.8 points.

After opening the year 4-2 against non-conference competition, the Hillcats have lost its first seven league games of the season to enter Monday 4-9 overall. RSU averages 70.8 points per game, eighth-most in the conference, while giving up 71.6 points per game, second-most in the game. Bailey Kliewer leads the team with 14.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. She hits 46.6 percent from the floor and 83.1 percent from the free-throw line.
