The Fort Hays State women's soccer team received the No. 4 seed in the 2022 MIAA Tournament and will host No. 5 seed Central Oklahoma on Sunday (Oct. 30). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers finished the regular season 10-1-7 overall and 5-1-5 in the MIAA after a 1-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney last Sunday. FHSU outscored opponents 23-8 in the regular season, allowing the fewest goals in the conference. Hannah Mares continues to lead the team with seven goals after scoring the lone goal against the Lopers. She is followed by Montserrat Diaz with four this season.
Central Oklahoma finished 11-3-4 overall and 6-3-2 in the MIAA after a scoreless tie with Newman in its regular season finale. The Bronchos have outscored opponents 33-16, while averaging 14 shots per match. UCO leads the all-time series 9-4-2. The two squads played to a 1-1 tie earlier this season. The last time Tigers and Bronchos met in Hays, the Bronchos came out with a 2-1 win during the 2021 season.
This is the Tigers' seventh-straight appearance in the MIAA Tournament. Last year a No. 8 seeded Tiger team fell 3-2 in overtime to top-seeded Central Missouri in the quarterfinals. The last time the Tigers hosted an MIAA Tournament game, they topped Missouri Western in the quarterfinals by a score of 3-0 during the 2018 season. The Tigers are 4-2-2 all-time in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Tournament, including a 3-0-2 mark in that round at home. This will be the fifth time FHSU and Central Oklahoma meet in the MIAA Tournament as UCO holds a 3-1 advantage in the previous matchups. Central Oklahoma won the last tournament meeting by a score of 3-0 in the quarterfinals on its home field back in 2019.
