Softball Travels to Oklahoma for Six Contests vs. GAC Opponents

Fort Hays State Softball takes its 4-0 record to Oklahoma this week for six contests against opponents from the Great American Conference in the Raising Cane's Softball Festival. The Tigers will be playing games in both Bethany and Edmond, Oklahoma. Their first three contests of the week will be in Bethany at Southern Nazarene's home venue, while the last three will be in Edmond split between Central Oklahoma's home venue and Deer Creek High School.

Fort Hays State enters the week at 4-0 overall after sweeping contests at the Mustang Round Up last week in Wichita Falls, Texas. FHSU outscored its opponents 19-5 last weekend, which included a 9-1 run-rule win over Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers had two shutouts for the weekend, both on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State and a 1-0 win over Cameron.
 
Head coach Adrian Pilkington enters the weekend with 198 career coaching victories. She is in her 10th year as head coach of the Tigers and is already the all-time wins leader for coaches in the program's NCAA Division II history.

Oklahoma Baptist
2023 Record: 44-12

Series History: OBU leads 7-3
Series Notes
- Seven of the 10 games in the series history have been played in Oklahoma.
- Fort Hays State won last year's meeting between the teams in Wichita Falls, Texas by a score of 7-6. FHSU rallied back from a 6-0 deficit in that game.
- Emma Montoya, Bailey Carlson and Savanah Egger all pitched in the game against OBU last year in Wichita Falls. Carlson got the win in 4.1 innings of relief, while Egger picked up a save in an inning of work.
- Madison Pierce (4) and Loren Beggs (3) accounted for all 7 RBIs in last year's meeting with OBU. Beggs was 3-for-4 in the game and Pierce was 2-for-4. Sarah Tiffany and Regan Curry also had two hits each in the game.
- Oklahoma Baptist competed in the NCAA Central Regional last year as the No. 5 seed. The Bison defeated No. 4 seed Harding in its first game before falling to No. 1 seed Central Oklahoma and then Harding in an elimination game to finish their season.
 
Southern Nazarene
2023 Record: 25-28

Series Notes
- FHSU won the first five meetings between the teams before SNU won the last two.
- The teams met in Bethany last year as SNU edged FHSU 7-6. FHSU had a 6-5 lead going to the bottom of the seventh, but SNU hit a two-run walk-off home run to win.
- Peyton Shepard was 3-for-3 at the plate in last year's meeting, while Aubrey Martinez was 3-for-4. Sarah Tiffany and Lexi Mohr had 2 RBIs each in the contest.
- Savanah Egger recorded six strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work against the Crimson Storm last year.
- FHSU and SNU are meeting for a fifth-straight year. FHSU's last win over SNU was in 2021 by a score of 3-2 in Choctaw, Okla.
 
#23 Southern Arkansas
2023 Record: 45-15
2024 Record: 6-3
Series History: SAU leads 4-1
Series Notes
- FHSU won the first meeting with SAU in 2013 before SAU won the last four contests between the schools.
- SAU won last year's meeting with FHSU in Yukon, Oklahoma by a score of 8-2.
- SAU was ranked No. 16 in the NFCA Poll in last year's meeting with FHSU.
- This is the third straight year FHSU and SAU are meeting in Oklahoma.
- Morgan Schmidt threw 6.1 innings against the Muleriders last year, recording 11 strikeouts.
- SAU competed in the NCAA Central Regional last year as the No. 6 seed. The Muleriders went 3-0 to win the regional pod contested in Joplin, Mo., knocking off No. 3 seed Rogers State twice and No. 2 seed Missouri Southern once. SAU won the first game of the Super Regional with Central Oklahoma in Edmond before UCO bounced back to win the final two games of the 3-game series and advance to the NCAA Championship site.
- SAU is the first nationally ranked opponent the Tigers are facing this season.
 
East Central

Series Notes
- East Central won last year's meeting with FHSU by a score of 5-1 in Yukon, Oklahoma.
- Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson had the only RBI against ECU in the meeting last year.
- This will be the fourth straight neutral meeting between FHSU and ECU in Oklahoma.
- FHSU's last win over ECU was in 2022 by a score of 5-4.
 
Southeastern Oklahoma State
2023 Record: 33-27
2024 Record: 3-5
Series History: SESU leads 3-2
Series Notes
- This is the first meeting between FHSU and SESU since the 2011 season.
- FHSU won the last meeting in 2011 by a score of 16-5 in Joplin, Mo.
- All five previous games between FHSU and SESU have been at different locations, and this meeting continues that trend.
 
Arkansas Tech

- Arkansas Tech won last year's meeting with FHSU by a score of 9-1 in Yukon, Oklahoma.
- FHSU's last win over Arkansas Tech was in 2022 by a score of 4-2 in 8 innings in Edmond, Oklahoma.
- Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson had the only Tiger RBI against ATU last year.
- This will be the third-straight year FHSU and ATU are meeting in Oklahoma.
- Loren Beggs and Erika Flynn had RBIs in the win over Arkansas Tech in 2022.

Tiger Notes
  • Savanah Egger is the reigning MIAA Pitcher of the Week after notching two complete games, including one shutout, last weekend in Wichita Falls. Her shutout was in a tight 1-0 win against Cameron. She struck out 16 batters in 14 innings for the week.
  • Morgan Schmidt was tremendous in the pitching circle last week as well, finishing with a spotless ERA in 12 innings of work. She struck out 12 batters in those 12 innings and also threw a pair of complete games, including a shutout in a 4-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State.
  • Loren Beggs leads FHSU with a .636 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage. She is tied for the team lead in extra-base hits with Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson with two each. Beggs has the team's only home run so far.
  • Alondra Dominguez went 6-for-7 at the plate on the first day of the season in a pair of Tiger wins. She is hitting .500 for the season.
  • Madison Pierce leads the Tigers in RBIs with five. She is hitting .462 so far this season.
  • Loren Beggs ranks 8th in NCAA Division II for on-base percentage (.714) and leads the MIAA.
  • Savanah Egger ranks 9th in NCAA Division II for WHIP (0.57). She ranks second in the MIAA.
  • Fort Hays State leads the MIAA and ranks second nationally in ERA at just 0.27. The Tigers allowed only one earned run in 26 innings last weekend in Wichita Falls, Texas.
  • FHSU also ranks first in the MIAA and second nationally in WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched). The Tigers sit at 0.77 so far this season, just shy of Indianapolis leading the way at 0.74.
  • FHSU has four players hitting over .400 for the season.
