Softball Heads to MSU Denver for First Doubleheader of the Season

Fort Hays State (9-5) at
MSU Denver (13-5)
Wednesday, February 28 – 12 PM (MT) / 1 PM (CT)
Denver, Colo. – Assembly Athletic Complex

Fort Hays State Softball will play its first doubleheader of the 2024 season on Wednesday (Feb. 28) at MSU Denver. Game one is set to begin at 12 p.m. local time in Denver, but 1 p.m. Central Time. The Tigers enter the games at 9-5 overall this season, while MSU Denver is 13-5 overall. The games will be at the Assembly Athletic Complex.

Fort Hays State is looking to shake off three setbacks to close out the Washburn Invitational this past weekend in Topeka. The Tigers won their first three games of the weekend, but suddenly went cold offensively and dropped three straight. FHSU pitchers continued their strong start to the season as opponents scored two or fewer runs in five of the six contests in Topeka, but were on the losing end in losses by the scores of 1-0 and 2-0. The only contest the Tigers yielded more than two runs was the weekend finale against St. Cloud State, which resulted in a 6-2 loss.

MSU Denver is currently on a nine-game win streak after sweeping back-to-back four-game conference series over the past two weeks with Black Hills State and New Mexico Highlands, a pair of teams that finished toward the bottom of the RMAC in 2023. The Roadrunners' last loss came back on February 11 in the first game of a doubleheader against St. Mary's (Texas) in Denver.

Series Notes
-MSU Denver leads the all-time series with FHSU 15-10.

-The win for FHSU in game two of the doubleheader last year stopped a four-game win streak in the series for MSU Denver.
-Bailey Carlson posted a complete-game win against the Roadrunners last year, scattering five hits with three walks. She struck out two.
-This will be the fourth-straight year the Tigers and Roadrunners meet in a doubleheader in Denver. The last 14 games in the series have been played on MSU Denver's home field.
