HAYS, Kan. - The 13th-ranked Fort Hays State women's wrestling team earned an impressive 30-16 dual win over the Oklahoma State Cowgirl wrestling club Saturday evening (Nov. 15) inside Gross Memorial Coliseum, continuing their strong start to the season. The Tigers opened with back-to-back falls to seize early momentum and closed the night with two pins to lock down the team victory.
The Tigers jumped ahead quickly as
Kennedy Farrar (103) and
Isabella Cross (110) each recorded falls, giving FHSU a 10-0 lead. 10th-ranked
Leiannah Landreth (117) extended the advantage with a 16-4 tech fall, collecting the necessary points for the bonus team point just before time expired.
Trailing 14-1, Oklahoma State responded with tech falls at 124 and 131 to cut the margin to six, 15-9. Momentum swung back in the favor of the Tigers when
Peyton Hellmann (138) secured a pin in 1:40. OSU fought back with wins 145 and 160, clawing within four points with two bouts to go.
Fifth-ranked
Isabella Renfro (180) and
Hailey Conley (207) helped the Tigers close the night in dominating fashion, with the pair both pinning their opponent in less than 90 seconds.
The Tigers will return to action next weekend (Nov. 21-22) when they head to Marshall, Mo. for the Missouri Valley Open.
