Fort Hays State Softball returns to action with a pair of early week non-conference home doubleheaders. The Tigers will host the University of Mary on Sunday (Mar. 16) for a pair of games starting at 12 p.m., then welcome Northwestern Oklahoma State to town on Tuesday (Mar. 18) for a pair starting at 1 p.m.
Â
The Tigers are coming off a 3-1 trip to Colorado last week, where they split with UC-Colorado Springs and swept Adams State. The Tigers averaged just over eight runs per game in their three wins.
Â
The Tigers will face Mary for the first time since 2023 when they won a neutral contest in Topeka, Kan. The Tigers are 4-1 against the Marauders all-time. This will be the first-ever doubleheader between the schools since the previous five contests were all neutral site games.
Â
Fort Hays State has already seen Northwestern Oklahoma State once this season, the season opener in Texas. FHSU won that contest 3-2. FHSU swept a doubleheader from NWOSU in Alva last year. The Tigers are currently on a four-game win streak against the Rangers and hold a 7-3-1 record in the matchup all-time.
Â
Madison Pierce continues to lead the Tigers in batting average (.431), extra-base hits (6), and runs (13). She is tied for the team lead in RBIs with
Lexi Mohr, each with 13.
Lilly Mohr has a team-best four home runs after hitting a pair in the first game against Adams State last week.
Â
Morgan Schmidt leads the Tigers in the pitching circle so far with a 7-2 record and 2.03 ERA. She has struck out 73 batters in 58.2 innings of work. She and
Savanah Egger have combined for 13 wins this season.
