Softball Jumps Back into MIAA Play Sunday, Hosts Northwest Missouri State

Fort Hays State Softball returns to MIAA play this Sunday (Mar. 23) with a doubleheader at home against Northwest Missouri State. The doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m. at Fleharty Family Field and the games will be carried on radio - 1400 AM KAYS. The Tigers enter at 18-6 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA, currently riding a seven-game win streak overall, while the Bearcats enter the weekend at 11-16 overall and 1-5 in the MIAA. NWMSU will play at Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday before coming to Hays on Sunday.
 
Fort Hays State's last eight games were non-conference contests and the Tigers took seven of those eight. After an 8-0 loss to UC-Colorado Springs to start the stretch, the Tigers earned a split with UCCS and then swept doubleheaders from Adams State, Mary, and Northwestern Oklahoma State. During the current seven-game win streak, the Tigers are averaging 8.0 runs per game. Three of the wins in the run have been run-rule wins.
 
Northwest Missouri State stopped a seven-game losing streak it was riding by winning the second game of a conference doubleheader with Central Missouri on Tuesday. It was Northwest Missouri State's first conference win of the season.
 
Fort Hays State currently has seven regular starters hitting north of .300 for the season, led by Madison Pierce at .400. Pierce also leads the team in RBIs (15), runs scored (16), walks (12), and on-base percentage (.488). Lilly Mohr leads the Tigers in home runs (4) and extra-base hits (9). Lexi Mohr is tied with Pierce for the team lead in RBIs with 15 and she has eight extra-base hits for the season.
 
Morgan Schmidt and Savanah Egger continue their strong work in the pitching circle this season, both holding ERAs under 3.00 and WHIPs under 1.20. Schmidt has 79 strikeouts in 65.2 innings of work this year, while Egger has 73 in 71.0 innings of work. Both have eight wins this season.
 
Offensively the Bearcats are led by Lillie Filger with a .418 batting average and Omara Love with 12 extra-base hits. Skylar Pieper is their leader in RBIs. Alexis Brown is also hitting .400 for the season. In the pitching circle, Rien Moore leads the Bearcats with a 2.01 ERA and 5-1 record. She has 37 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.
