AUSTIN, Texas –
Katie Wagner DeGarmo of Fort Hays State was one of just 16 student-athletes named to the 2024-25 CSC Academic All-America Team in Women's Basketball for NCAA Division II on Wednesday (Apr. 16). She was a second-team selection. She is the eighth individual in FHSU Women's Basketball history to receive this honor and first since Whitney Randall in 2021-22. The Academic All-America team is voted on by Sports Information Directors and Athletic Media Relations Directors all throughout NCAA Division II, which combines an athlete's athletic accomplishments along with their academic accomplishments.
DeGarmo was an elite player nationally once again in 2024-25, earning an All-America First Team selection by the WBCA and an All-America Third Team selection by D2CSC. She was the MIAA Player of the Year for a second-straight year (2023-24 and 2024-25), while also earning All-America honors for a second-straight year as well. She was the first repeat MIAA Player of the Year in women's basketball since Crystal Walker of Washburn in 2001-02 and 2002-03.
Overall, DeGarmo was a two-time D2CSC All-Central Region First Team selection and four-time All-MIAA selection (including first-team honors the last three years) on the court. She set the FHSU career record for rebounds at 1,248, passing the former mark of 1,109 set by Kate Lehman back in 2015. DeGarmo finished second on the all-time scoring list at FHSU with 2,299 points, just the second player in program history to eclipse 2,000 points, joining Tiger Sports and Kansas Sports Hall of Fame inductee Annette Wiles who owns the school record at 2,407 points. Additionally, DeGarmo is tied for second in career steals at FHSU with 236, ranks second in free throws made with 512, and ranks fourth in career assists with 408.
DeGarmo helped Fort Hays State to its 14
th-consecutive season of reaching at least 20 wins, the longest active streak in NCAA Division II. She helped the Tigers to their ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 11 years and 10th overall. Wagner helped the Tigers earn a win in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Southwest Minnesota State in the Central Regional Semifinal. The Tigers finished the season at 28-5 overall.
Academically, DeGarmo has put together an impressive resume as a three-time CSC Academic All-District selection, four-time recipient of the MIAA Scholar-Athlete Award, five-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, and one-time recipient of the MIAA Academic Excellence Award. She carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in her graduate studies, working on her MBA, and held a 3.87 GPA as an Accounting major in her undergraduate studies at FHSU.
In 2023-24, DeGarmo was the MIAA Women's Ken B. Jones Award winner, which honors the MIAA's top female and male student-athletes for all sports combined from an academic year. Wagner was the third FHSU student-athlete to win the Ken B. Jones Award, joining Kate Lehman (Women's Basketball, 2015) and Ryan Stanley (Men's Track & Field, 2023). It gave FHSU a winner of the award for the second year in a row after Stanley was the first FHSU male to ever win the award in 2023. Stanley (Spring 2021) and Whitney Randall (Women's Basketball, Winter 2020-21) both won season-specific MIAA Student-Athlete of the Year awards in 2020-21 when the award was divided into seasons due to the void of athletic competition in the fall that year due to COVID-19, but the Ken B. Jones title was not used on those honors since the award is all-season inclusive.
Ten individuals earned WBCA All-America First Team honors in 2024-25 and six of those individuals were among the 16 named to the CSC Academic All-America Team. DeGarmo was one of those six, which included Rylie Bisballe of Grand Valley State, Grace Foster of Lubbock Christian, Bri Stoltzman of Southwest Minnesota State, Emilee Weakley of Frostburg State, and Ashley Ingram of Texas Woman's. Additionally, six more individuals on the CSC Academic All-America Team received either an honorable mention All-America selection by the WBCA or an All-America selection by D2CSC. DeGarmo was one of nine individuals on the Academic All-America Team to receive All-America selections by both the WBCA and D2CSC in 2024-25.
DeGarmo brings Fort Hays State's all-time CSC Academic All-America count to 75 for all sports, with the first awarded back in 1975. She is the fourth CSC Academic All-America selection during the 2024-25 academic year for Fort Hays State, joining Tadhg Walsh of men's soccer and Myles Menges and Josh Shaw of football.
