The Fort Hays State men's and women's cross country teams return to the course Friday (Sept. 26) when the Tigers head south for the Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. The women's six-kilometer race will kick off the morning at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course at 8:15 a.m., with the men's eight-kilometer race to follow at 8:50 a.m.

The women's team is ranked 23rd in the country and sixth in the region, while the men's team cracked the regional rankings for the first time at No. 9 this week. The women finished second at each of their first two races, while the men were third at the JK Gold Classic and fifth at the Muthama-Rogers Invitational.

Fort Hays State is one of 23 collegiate institutions that will compete at this year's Jamboree, joined by 13 NCAA Division I programs, seven Division II teams, one NAIA school and one NJCAA squad. Opposition will include BYU, Central Oklahoma, Incarnate Word, Kentucky, Lubbock Christian, Midwestern State, New Mexico, Odessa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Oregon, Rice, SMU, Southeastern Oklahoma State, TCU, Tulsa, UC-San Diego, UT-Tyler and Western Colorado.

The Tigers are competing at the Cowboy Jamboree for the second time in three years, with the women finishing fourth overall and the men seventh at the event in 2023. The women were the top Division II team in the race that year. Prior to 2023, FHSU had run in the Cowboy Jamboree only twice in the previous 13 years (2010, 2015).

Five Tigers were on the squad when FHSU attended the race in 2023, including Hudson, Harbaugh and Premer on the women's side and Morenz and Esfeld from the men's team.

Looking ahead, the Black and Gold will wrap up the regular season by hosting the FHSU Tiger Open on Saturday, October 11 beginning at 9:15 a.m.
