The Fort Hays State men's wrestling team returns to action following the holiday break Friday (Jan. 9) at the Iron Mike Duals in Marshall, Minn. The first of four duals is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
 
The Tigers will first take on Quincy before battling Sioux Falls around 12:30 p.m. FHSU will then go up against Northern State around 2 p.m. before wrapping up the event against host Southwest Minnesota State around 3:30 p.m.

Fort Hays State heads to Minnesota 2-3 overall and 1-0 in MIAA duals. The Tigers traveled to this event last season (then called the SMSU Duals), returning home 1-2 with a win over the host Mustangs and a loss on tiebreak criteria against Minot State.
 
The Tigers are expected to bring 16 competitors to the event, including two each at the middle six weights and one each at 125, 133, 197 and 285. Cash Thomas (157 pounds) and Ryan Patterson (197) both lead this week's crew with 12 wins on the season. Thomas leads the team with 10 bonus-point wins, including four technical falls. Ernesto Duenez is coming off a first-place finish at the Cougar Open where he went 3-0 in the 174-pound bracket.
 
Quincy is undefeated this season, heading into the weekend 6-0 overall and 1-0 in GLVC action. The Hawks boasts one ranked wrestler in No. 7 Sabian Russell at 149 pounds. 125-pounder Brian Farley was recently named GLVC Wrestler of the Week after recording a pin in just 43 seconds against St. Ambrose last week.
 
Sioux Falls is 1-3 overall and 0-3 in NSIC action. 157-pounder Cooper Sanders leads the Cougars with a record of 13-4 this season.
 
This will be the first-ever meeting between FHSU and both Quincy and Sioux Falls.
 
Northern State heads into the dual tournament 1-2, all of which have been NSIC matchups. The Wolves feature three ranked wrestlers, including No. 10 Brady Westall at 184 pounds, No. 13 Rudy Lopez at 149 pounds and No. 14 Sloan Johannsen at 125 pounds.
 
FHSU is 6-3 all-time against Northern State, with the Wolves taking each of the last three meetings. NSU defeated the Tigers 35-6 in the most recent meeting two seasons ago (11/9/23).
 
Southwest Minnesota State is also 1-2 this season while the Mustangs carry a record of 0-1 in the NSIC. 157-pounder Tate Condezo leads the team with 17 wins this season, going 17-10 so far in 2025-26.
 
The Tigers are 5-1 all-time against Southwest Minnesota State, most recently defeating the Mustangs 28-14 at last season's SMSU Duals (1/18/25).
 
Looking ahead, the Tigers will return to action next weekend (Jan. 18) when they travel to Warrensburg, Mo. for the Roger Denker Open.
