Women’s Wrestling Ranked No. 12 to Open 2026-27, Renfro and Burton Individually Ranked

MANHEIM, Pa. – Fort Hays State Women's Wrestling is ranked No. 12 nationally by the NWCA to open the 2026-27 season. The Tigers have two individuals nationally ranked, which includes Isabella Renfro ranked No. 3 at 180 and Alexis Burton ranked No. 6 at 160. Additionally, FHSU has eight wrestlers among the initial region rankings for each class.

Fort Hays State qualified four individuals to the first-ever NCAA Championships for women's wrestling last season, which included Renfro (180), Burton (160), Leiannah Landreth (117), and Nichole Moore (145). Renfro was the lone Tiger who earned All-America honors last year with a fourth-place finish in her sophomore season. Moore is the only one of the four who does not return this season after exhausting her eligibility in 2025-26.

Renfro is coming off a 32-5 season in 2025-26, becoming the first Tiger to earn NCAA All-America honors. She won her first 26 matches of the season, remaining undefeated through January before taking her first blemish on February 7. She set a new single-season record for wins by a Tiger, topping the old mark of 31 set by former teammate Nichole Moore. Renfro has 61 wins through two seasons at FHSU. She placed in six tournaments last year, including three tournament titles, and went a perfect 10-0 in dual action.

Burton posted a 22-10 record in 2025-26, making the transition in classes to 160 from 145 mid-season. She went 12-4 down the stretch with three tournament placements, which included first place at the Grand View Open and third place at the NCAA regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She picked up one win at nationals. All 32 of Burton's matches last year were in tournaments as she matched Renfro in tournament placements with six.
