Men's Track and Field

Track and Field Adjusts Schedule, Off to Emporia Thursday-Friday

Fort Hays State Track and Field
at the Midwest Classic & Multis
Thursday-Friday, April 2-3, 2026
Emporia, Kan. • Welch Stadium/Zola Witten Track
Thursday - 12 p.m. • Friday - 9:30 a.m.

The Fort Hays State men's and women's track and field teams have altered their schedule for this weekend due to the weather forecast. Instead of competing in Pittsburg, Kan. on Saturday, the Tigers will instead travel to Emporia, Kan. Thursday and Friday (April 2-3) for the Midwest Classic & Multis.

The first five events of the men's decathlon and the first four of the women's heptathlon will open the festivities at noon on Thursday, with both the men's and women's javelin throw competitions taking place Thursday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m. Day two of the multis will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, with action in other field events starting at 10:30 a.m. before events on the track start at noon.

Admission will be free, with live results posted online here.

This is the only scheduled trip to Emporia for the Tigers during the regular season, with hopefully many student-athletes returning to the gold track in May when ESU hosts 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

FHSU competed in Emporia twice last season, posting eight national qualifying marks and claiming five All-MIAA finishes when the Hornets hosted the 2025 outdoor league meet. The Tigers also competed at the 2025 Midwest Classic, with five women claiming event victories (Annabeth Baalmann - PV, Emma Weiner - 5,000m, Makenzie Premer - 3,000m, Eden Bathurst - 800m, Reba Mader - 400m).

The Tigers are off to a strong start to the outdoor season, posting nine national qualifying performances and breaking two school records.

Avrey Albright broke a 21-year-old school record in the 400m dash Sunday in Nebraska, running in 46.80 to rank sixth in Division II this season. Emma Slade broke her own school record in the discus, recording a top heave of 162-9 to rank eighth in the country.

Other national qualifying performances came from Dean Clark in the long jump (24-7, second in DII), Annabeth Baalmann in the pole vault (13-1.5, fourth), Bradley Nkosi in the 110m hurdles (14.26, 13th), Josiah Ball in the pole vault (16-2.75, 17th) and a trio of athletes in the men's javelin - Jackson Rumford (212-9, 19th), Dalton Meyers (206-7, 26th) and Guy Tubbs (198-8, 35th).
