Baseball Hosts No. 16 Mules for Three-Game Set

The Fort Hays State baseball team will look to add on to a two-game winning streak this weekend (April 10-12) when the Tigers host No. 16 Central Missouri in a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
The Tigers head into the weekend 11-24 overall and 8-17 in MIAA play, while the Mules are 26-8 this season and 16-6 in conference action. FHSU is 6-8 at home this season after opening the year by playing 21 of their first 31 games on the road.
 
Admission is free once again this season at Larks Park, while live video will be available on The MIAA Network. Subscriptions cost $15 per game, $35 for a monthly subscription or $140 for an all-access pass. Live stats will be available online here. Live radio coverage will be available Friday on KJLS 103.3 FM, with voice of the Tigers Gerard Wellbrock on the call.
 
Fort Hays State leads the conference and ranks second nationally with 38 sacrifice bunts this season while the Tiger defense leads the league and ranks 11th in Division II with 33 double plays.
 
Antonio Avila has hit safely in 19-straight games, the longest hitting streak by a Tiger since 2015 (Kevin Czarnecki, 21 games). He ranks fourth in the conference and is 21st in the country with 15 doubles.
 
Derek Woolwine leads the Tigers with nine home runs, seventh-most in the conference, while his slugging percentage of .686 is also seventh-best in the league.
 
Justin Lipka has gunned down 11 would-be base stealers this season, second-most in the conference. Cooper Howell is tied for first in the league with 94 assists.
 
The Mules have lost three of their last four conference matchups and are 8-4 on the road this season. They lead Division II with 142 steals and 20 triples this season while ranking second in the country with a fielding percentage of .981 and just 7.15 hits allowed per nine innings. Ryker Edwards leads the team and ranks seventh in the MIAA with a batting average of .408, with Sawyer Allen ranking second in the league with a WHIP of 0.96.
 
Fort Hays State snapped a 28-game losing streak against UCM last season with a 9-4 road win, taking one of three in 2025 to beat the Mules for the first time since 2016. The Tigers are 1-10 against Central Missouri under head coach Justin Wichert, with all 11 of those games being played in Warrensburg, Mo. This is UCM's first trip to Hays since 2022. The Tigers are 14-59 all-time against the Mules.
 
Looking ahead, the Tigers will wrap up their midweek series against Washburn when they host the Ichabods next Tuesday (April 14) beginning at 3 p.m.
