No. 6 Tigers Return to Road Action Saturday at Missouri Western

Game Notes I Watch Live I Listen Live I Live Stats

The No. 6 ranked Fort Hays State men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 11) at Missouri Western. This will be the second game in a three-game road swing for the Tigers. The Tigers bring a record of 9-0, 3-0 in the MIAA into the game. Missouri Western is 3-5, 1-2 in the MIAA. Game time is set for 3:30 pm at the MWSU Fieldhouse in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Tigers look to avoid the upset bug this year in St. Joseph, where they were knocked off last year by the Griffons by six points as the No. 3 ranked team in the nation. This will be the second-straight year the Tigers bring a top-10 ranking into the meeting with the Griffons in St. Joseph.

Solid inside play of seniors Dijon Smith and Ken Bowman has remained steady with each shooting 70 percent or better from the field for the season. Smith is the team leader at 71.6 percent after a 7-of-7 shooting performance at Washburn on Wednesday, which led to a team-high 15 points. Smith has also been solid at the free-throw line of late, hitting his last nine attempts. Bowman has shot at least 60 percent in all seven games he scored in double figures this year. He leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.1 per game. Smith is second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game, reaching double figures in each of the last six games. Bowman is third on the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game.

Dominique Jones continues to lead FHSU in scoring at 17.4 points per game. He has scored in double figures in all games this year. He has done a tremendous job finding his teammates averaging nine assists over the last two games, which included a career-high 10 assists against Nebraska-Omaha.

Corbin Kuntzsch continues his steady play for the Tigers, averaging 11.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He is just 42 points shy of 1,000 for his career at FHSU.

Karron McKenzie, like Dijon Smith, had a perfect shooting night at Washburn on Wednesday. He was 4-of-4 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line for 12 points. He is the MIAA leader in free-throw percentage at 88.9 percent (24-of-27).

Moses Dayee is the top 3-point shooter on the team, connecting at a 40 percent rate (20-of-50). He and McKenzie are the top scorers off the bench for FHSU, each at 9.2 points per game.

The Tigers are the top shooting team in the MIAA at 53.3 percent. FHSU has shot at least 50 percent from the field in all three of its MIAA games this year. The Tigers also lead the conference in lowest field goal percentage allowed (.386) and lowest 3-point field goal percentage allowed (.274).
