The No. 8 ranked Tigers took care of business on the road Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo., at Lincoln University, winning in blowout fashion 95-62. Fort Hays State improved to 16-2 overall and 10-2 in the MIAA with the win.
Up seven midway through the first half, the Tigers put the game away early with a 19-0 run that gave them a 26-point lead with just under three minutes remaining. They led by that margin at halftime and cruised the rest of the way to a 33-point victory. For the second time this year, the Tigers scored 95 points and had six players score in double figures against Lincoln.
Dijon Smith led the scoring parade for FHSU with 20 points, just one off his career high which he set last Saturday against Pittsburg State at home.
Dominique Jones had 18 points, which included four 3-point field goals.
Moses Dayee had 13, all coming in the second half, which included three 3-point field goals.
Also reaching double figures were
Ben Congiusta with 11,
Corbin Kuntzsch with 10, and
Matt Simmons with a season-high 10. Simmons was just one rebound and two assists shy of a triple-double, leading the team with nine boards and eight helpers. Kuntzsch moved into a tie for 15th with Marvin Andrews on the career scoring list at FHSU, now with 1,054 points.
The Tigers scorched the nets, hitting 64.3 percent of their field goal attempts. They hit 11-of-21 3-point attempts, a 52.4 percent rate beyond the arc.
Cedric Ridle, Jr. was the only Lincoln player to score in double figures with 21 points. The Blue Tigers were held to just 34.4 percent shooting from the field and 27.3 percent beyond the 3-point line.
The Tigers have a difficult road game looming on Wednesday (Jan. 26) at Nebraska-Omaha, a team that has come on strong lately in conference play. Game time is set for 7:30 pm. The Mavericks are 10-6 overall and 7-5 in the MIAA, currently in fourth place after losing a battle for third place in the standings on Saturday night at home against Washburn.
