Another Tough Road Game Awaits No. 7 Tigers Tonight at UNO

Game Notes I Watch Live I Listen Live I Live Stats

The No. 7 ranked Tigers (16-2, 10-2 MIAA) play at Nebraska-Omaha (10-6, 7-5 MIAA) Wednesday evening (Jan. 26). Game time is set for 7:30 pm. This will be a battle between two of the top four teams in the conference race.

After starting conference play at 0-3, Nebraska-Omaha went on a tear, winning six consecutive conference contests. They have cooled a bit recently, winning just one of their last three, but the two losses were to first-place Missouri Southern and third-place Washburn at home. The Mavericks have played a lot of close conference games this year, with nine of the 12 so far being decided by less than 10 points. Four of their last five games have been decided by six points or less.

This is another huge road contest for the Tigers as they still trail Missouri Southern by a game in the conference standings. The Lions (15-1, 11-1 MIAA) are also on the road tonight at Central Missouri.

Fort Hays State is coming off a 33-point conference road win at Lincoln University this past Saturday. The Tigers are currently riding a three-game win streak and moved up to No. 7 in the latest national poll released on Tuesday.

Dominique Jones was steady over the past two games, scoring 18 points and dishing out six assists in each contest. His pair of free-throws late proved to be the difference in a one-point nailbiting win over Emporia State in Hays last Wednesday. He continues to lead FHSU in scoring at 17.0 points per game and has scored in double figures in all but one game this year. He leads the MIAA in assists per game (5.9).

Dijon Smith posted his fourth game of scoring at least 20 points this year with a team-high 20 against Lincoln this past Saturday. He continues to rank second on the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game. He is second in the MIAA in field goal percentage (.662) and leads the MIAA in blocked shots per game (1.6).

Matt Simmons is coming off a solid all around performance at Lincoln this past Saturday. He was just one rebound and two assists shy of a triple-double, with a line of 10 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. He is averaging 4.3 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds off the bench this season.

Corbin Kuntzsch will likely move to 14th on the all-time scoring list at FHSU by himself, as he's currently tied for that position with Marvin Andrews at 1,054 points. He still has 80 points to go to reach the next person on the list, Edgar Eason, and 81 to reach Nate Rollins. Kuntzsch is averaging 10.8 points per game this year.

Ken Bowman was able to get a fair amount of rest in the blowout win over Lincoln this past Saturday. He scored just two points on the heels of his season-high 21 against Emporia State. Bowman is the third-leading scorer on the team at 11.5 points per game, giving the Tigers a 1-2 punch in the post with Dijon Smith.

Moses Dayee continues to lead the team in three-point field goals with 39 this year. He is shooting 41.1 percent beyond the arc. He tied his season high of 13 points at Lincoln this past Saturday, which included three 3-point field goals.

Karron McKenzie continues to lead the MIAA in free-throw shooting, despite his streak of 13-consecutive makes being snapped at Lincoln. He is shooting 86.8 percent at the line (46-of-53). He is sixth on the team in scoring at 8.1 points per game.

Ben Congiusta is heating up from 3-point range, shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) from beyond the arc in the last six games. He has also been playing solid defense, holding some of the top scoring guards in the conference in check over the last few games. He is averaging 6.3 points per game this year.

Following the contest at Nebraska-Omaha, the Tigers return to Hays for a three-game homestand, starting with Northwest Missouri State on Saturday (Jan. 29).
