The undefeated Tiger men's and women's basketball teams will be in action at home over the weekend at Gross Memorial Coliseum, starting at 2 pm on Saturday (Nov. 26). The FHSU women play their only game of the weekend against Bethel College at 2 pm and the men begin their two-day stretch against NAIA opponents with Sterling College at 4 pm. The men return on Sunday to host Baker University at 3 pm.
The women enter their game with Bethel College at 5-0 overall. Bethel comes to Hays with a record of 3-3. The Tigers have reeled off two straight wins in which they scored 100 points. Bethel is the fourth NAIA opponent for FHSU this year. The Tigers have scored at least 90 points against all three of their previous NAIA opponents this year.
Katelyn Edwards is the top scorer for the Tigers at 15.8 points per game. She has led the Tigers in scoring in each of the last four games.
Traci Keyser, the team's top 3-point shooting threat, is also averaging double figures at 13.6 points per game. She is shooting 55.6 percent from beyond the 3-point line so far this year.
The FHSU men will have a double dip against NAIA teams this weekend with Sterling on Saturday and Baker on Sunday. Fort Hays State enters the weekend at 4-0, fresh off a 10-point win Tuesday against Newman University. Sterling is 2-6 overall, but is coming off a three-point win at NCAA Division II Regis University earlier this week. Baker enters at 7-2 overall on Sunday, scraping by with a two-point and one-point win in its last two contests.
After scoring in double figures in each of the last three games,
Tyrone Phillips is now the team leader in scoring at 14.0 points per game.
Karron McKenzie is the only other averaging double figures at 12.8 points per game. He has scored in double figures in all contests this year for FHSU.
Matt Simmons continues his torrid rebounding pace, averaging 14.5 per contest this year. He has reached double figures in rebounds in all four games.
